Prompts that force real answers

AI defaults to agreeable, hedged and fast. Six prompt patterns I use to get it to disagree with me, commit to a view, and do the deep pass instead of the quick one.

Out of the box, AI assistants are agreeable. They soften bad news, hedge every claim, and give you the fast tidy answer rather than the right one. That is fine for a recipe. It is a problem when you are deciding what to build or where to put money.

These are the patterns I use every day. None of them are clever. They work because they remove the model’s permission to be vague.

1. Make it a sparring partner

Challenge this as a sparring partner. Don’t default to agreeing with me. Tell me the three strongest arguments against it before you tell me anything good.

Asking for the counter-case first stops the answer from anchoring on your framing.
